About The Bionic Project

Why We Exist

We’re here because we know you were never broken to begin with.

The Bionic Project was created to support adults living with scoliosis and spinal fusion- through every disappointing appointment, every unanswered question, and every late-night Google search that ends in frustration.

We know what it feels like to be told, “you’ll just have to live with it.”

We believe that’s not good enough.

Most scoliosis support and resources stop after high school.

But scoliosis doesn’t.

The Bionic Project is the first-of-its-kind space focused entirely on adults living with scoliosis. Whether you’re managing chronic pain, healing from surgery, navigating pregnancy with rods, or just trying to sit through a meeting without your back locking up - we’re here for all of it.

We offer:

  • In-person meetups in cities across the world

  • Webinars + Q&As with scoliosis specialists and experts

  • A growing library of resources for post-surgery life, pain management, movement, and emotional support

  • A supportive, paid community platform built by and for scoliosis warriors

Founder of The Bionic Project

Professional dancer. Spinal fusion warrior. Community builder.

Hi, I’m Meredith Montana,  also known as the Bionic Ballerina. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 11, right as I was rising through the ranks of my ballet company. What started as a small curve quickly progressed into a 73-degree spiral that nearly cost me the career I’d trained for since I was four. I continued to dance despite being advised not to, and explored other forms of movement like jazz, tap, and musical theater.

At 21, after a particularly tough show run, my pain was at an all time high and I decided it was time. I underwent spinal fusion surgery - 24 screws, 2 titanium rods, and a whole lot of fear about what life would look like after. Would I still be able to dance? Audition? Work? Would I ever feel normal again?

What I didn’t have back then was a roadmap. Or a role model. Or even another person to talk to who really got it.

So I became the person I needed:

  • I moved to New York City and danced again - professionally.

  • I performed with Cher for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

  • I walked in NYFW.

  • And I started sharing my story online.

As I opened up, messages poured in from people all over the world who were living with scoliosis or spinal fusions and looking for connection. That’s how The Bionic Project began - not as a business, but as a bridge. A space for education, empathy, inspiration, and expansion.

Now, we’re a growing network of warriors, all navigating this journey together.
